Mission Gorge
Thirty minutes from just about anywhere in San Diego County, a granite hillside rises with cliffs ranging from 30 to 120 feet tall. The climbing here runs the gamut — crack, slab, and plenty in between. It's perfect for a half day in the summer (mornings, before it heats up) or a full day in the winter.
Mission Gorge is a great spot for first-time climbers, with areas well suited to teaching both movement on the rock and the technical, gear side of things. But it's not just for beginners - there's plenty here to challenge experienced climbers too, with a surprisingly remote feel for somewhere still inside the city.

Mt Woodson
Tucked into the hills of Poway sit the large granite boulders of Mt. Woodson. The setting is beautiful - surrounded by the rolling hills of San Diego County - with a laid-back energy where you won't be fighting crowds for a spot.
The cliffs here range from 15 to 120 feet, on rock that's sticky and sharp, a lot like Joshua Tree and Tahquitz. It's perfect for honing your slab and crack skills, minus the three-plus-hour drive.

Dixon Lake
Set atop the hills of Escondido are the short granite cliffs of Dixon Lake. Topping out at 40 feet or less, they offer a range of climbing styles similar to the crags above. The approach reminds us of Joshua Tree - quick and painless, less than five minutes from car to rock. Dixon Lake is perfect for anyone in North County who wants a quick half day with a minimal approach.
Southern California
Joshua Tree
The premier Southern California spot for rock climbing, with a history to match. Climbs here range from 40 to 200 feet, up domes of coarse, sticky granite scattered across the high desert. The approaches are mostly short and flat, and the season runs best from fall through spring.
We generally only run multi-day trips here through Bo & Friends - though for a larger group (6+), we can put together a single-day trip.
